Weekly Log: August 17 to 23- First Week of Cross Country

Monday: 3.5 miles. Fortunately a really easy practice. 2 miles of warm-ups and cool downs and 6 laps of Indian Chains. Brutally hot and sore from Sunday's run.

Tuesday: 3.5 again. 8x400 (ranging from 79-83 secs). Another easy run. Difficulty of Workout: 1/5.

Wednesday: 7
4 at practice: warm-ups and cool-downs plus 6 laps of indian chains and an all out 800m (2:13). Tried out new spikes.
Tried out New Spikes: Saucony Velocity 6
Last Spikes were Velocity 5s and I really liked them. Lightweight and durable.
Got this pair in a bright yellow/green, a color that I'm starting to like.
3 Later at the fun run: 2nd best time ever and had a strong 3rd mile. 3rd OA.

Thursday: 4 Miles. Hill Workout. 4 Narragansett Ave Hill Repeats + Usual Warmups and Cooldowns. Difficulty of Workout: 2/5.

Friday: 5 at practice. Hot timed timothy drive loop at 6:20 pace, well ahead of the others.

Saturday: 6.5 with Dad, slow, hot and humid.

Sunday: 0

Weekly Total: 29.5 Miles

Sunday, August 16, 2015

Weekly Log: August 10 to 16

Monday: 0
My usual day off. I signed up for Little Rhody, which might be my only non-school race in the fall.

Tuesday: 6 Miles, Stonington Fun Run. Felt good and seeing that it was the last one of the year, I pushed the pace a little and had my fastest ever Stonington fun run at 19:53, which placed me third. A little rainy.

Wednesday: 6 Miles, Westerly Fun Run. Had an excellent first mile in 5:33, but really felt apart and mile 2 was 6:15. Mile 3 I picked it up again to 5:44. Certainly not one of my weakest efforts, but this was one where I planned to run a little faster and break 18. 18:35, tied for 4th. Felt really dead on cool down.

Thursday: 6 Miles, Woody Hill w/Dad.

Friday: 6 Miles, Groton Fun Run. Went hard and felt great the first two miles averaging 6:15 pace. Was leading at that point, but really felt apart mile 3 on the uphills. Really slow 3rd mile (6:48) resulting in Dad passing me. The last half mile I regained some energy and felt like I was gaining on Dad but didn't have enough distance to catch him back. Course PR though. I finished out my final fun run of the season (probably, unless I do the mile at Westerly on the 26th) with another weak effort (following Wednesday's). The 3rd mile was terrible, and I didn't do as well as I wanted to on Wednesday. Stonington was the exception though. I had a good run there.

Saturday: 3 in the evening with Dad. Run right after a meal, and I didn't feel good at all.

Sunday: 13. Very Happy with Today's runs. First Run was at 5:23 AM, because the low tide was around 4:30 in Weekapaug. I felt sleepy at first, but was really happy about getting up so early. Last Saturday's beach run was really fun and cool, because it was perfect low tide as we ran. I envisioned this run as being twice as great because it was earlier in the day and twice as long. Unfortunately, waiting an hour takes away a lot of the fun, and we missed running on the hard beach with water right below are feet. It was similar, but not quite as great, and there were a few sections with random soft sand next to the hard sand and water. However, the one thing I liked better about this run is how I felt and how I ran. Mile 1 and 2 were about setting the pace, and once I had done that I felt good and picked it up. I didn't want to full on sprint, but I kept picking it up until we got to watch hill. There are 5 beach segments from Watch Hill to Weekapaug. There's Ocean House to Misquamicut, Misquamicut to Ocean House, Misquamicut to Town Beach, Seaside to Town, and Charlie Stavros 3-Mile Beach Run Course. In this run I took the 1.8 mile Misquamicut to Ocean House segment at a very comfortable 6:16 pace, before wading in the water at Watch hill and waiting for Dad. The way back wasn't so great- even though I slowed to pace to run with Dad, I started to form blisters, get tired, and the tide was coming in. The last mile was hard- my blisters really hurt. I was glad to take a beach segment that had been there for a while (most of my segment CR's have 4 people on them). It's cool that all the CR's on the beach segments have been set by people I know. Dad has the ocean house to misquamicut at 5:57 pace (1.8 miles), I have the misquamicut to Ocean house at 6:16 pace (1.8 miles), Tom has the Misquamicut to Ocean beach segment at 6:43 pace (1.6 miles), Chris has the Stavros segment at 5:29 pace (2.9 miles), and Galoob has the Seaside to Town at 5:26 pace (1.4 miles). In all a great run.

Run #2 was a 3-miler with Dad. This was one of those rare week where I set a goal for myself. After many pathetic weeks in the mid-30s, I wanted to get back into the 40s again. So, my goal was 40 miles for this week, and I went out for the run to make it happen. A hot, slow run that I could feel my blisters on. Also, my last run before cross country starts.

Weekly Total: 40 Miles

May Miles and Freshman Track Recap

When I broke my arm in the spring, I got lazy and stopped my weekly logs for a month and never wrote my May weekly logs. I'd rather do it now that wait until the end of the year when I forget even more.

Weekly Log: April 24 to 26 (2nd Half)

This is where I left off. I did my usual weekly log up to Thursday.

Saturday: 0 miles (I thought I would have done something but nothing on strava)

Sunday: 8 Miles, Avondale Run

Weekly Total: 35.5 Miles (I might have run Saturday without the watch but not sure)

Weekly Log: April 27 to May 3

Monday- Wednesday: Instead of running on Monday, I broke my arm and didn't resume running until Thursday.

Thursday: Just a mile to see how I felt.

Friday: 1.5 miles, starting to work back up to what I had.

Saturday: 3 Miles beach and road run with Dad.

Sunday: 4 miles beach and road run with Dad.

Weekly Total: 8.5 Miles

Weekly Log: May 4 to 10

After this, I'm guessing here. I stopped wearing the watch because of my cast, and I didn't blog about it, so I'll take what I can off  Dad's blog (when I ran with him), but the mileage total are really guesses now.

Monday: 0 Miles (Switched Casts)

Tuesday: 4 Miles

Wednesday: 4.5 Miles (I remember this one. There was a track meet that day, ad I wasn't in it. It was home and I had to do my run earlier. This run and Tuesday were both awful because I had to laps around the track.)

Thursday: 5 Miles. I convinced my coaches to let me run on the roads today and it was so much better. Timothy drive loop.

Friday: 3 Miles. Returned to track meets. I made the first meet of the season on April 14, and that was a home meet. I missed the April 28 EWG meet, then the May 6 Westerly Meet. The Coventry meet was supposed to be April 7, but it was postponed once, then again to May 8. I ran the 1500. The first 2 and half laps, I was behind my teammate and a Coventry runner. I passed both with 500 meters to go and pushed the last lap. In the last 100 meters, my coach yelled that a runner was gaining on me. It was last 100. I was spent. I tried to pick it up but it didn't feel any faster. About 3 seconds from the finish line, I don't hear anyone approaching me and I think I've won, but with 10 meters to go, the Coventry runner passes me. I gave a final surge forward with the rest of my energy, but it didn't matter at that point. I lost by fractions of a second. I had a great time, especially for my first time back. I never got it (they put times slower than me in the newspaper but left me out), but I assumed it around 4:36. Losing that way was so disappointing though. It happened to me only one other time: 7th grade division championship 3K. In that race, I led the whole way only to again be a passed by a runner who I thought was farther behind me. At least this one was just a dual meet.

Saturday: 5 Mile Rockridge loop with Dad. (I only know this because he puts weekly logs, thank god for that.)

Sunday: 6 Miles, Charlestown Beach run with Dad. (A Disappointing one too, not only was it high tide, but they had no scones when we came back and it was my first time there)

Weekly Total: 27.5 Miles (I was coming back to my regular self)

Weekly Log: May 11 to 17

Monday: 5. I really don't know, but I'm guessing the day before a meet, we just had a normal distance run. I'm not sure if this is the run where I start to run with people again or a later one.

Tuesday: 4 Miles, my first big meet of the season. Southern Division Championships and it was home. Results. A bunch of warm-ups and cool-down and one of those rare ones where I ran 3 events. First up was the 4x800. I was the 2nd leg (I think). Ran hard, passed a few guys, and a 5-second 800m PR of 2:10. Next was the 1500m, which was the next distance event after that. I was afraid I wouldn't get a ton of recover but there were enough heats of previous events and unseeded 1500s that I was well rested. I felt good and I started good. The first 900 meters of the race couldn't have gone better. I hung right with the lead pack. The last 600 didn't go so well. I was probably one pace for a PR, but I slowed down. I not dropped from the lead pack, but everyone else in the race passed me except for my teammate. Disappointing, but not an awful time. 4:29.9, 8th of 19. The nice thing about having a cast was that I didn't have to run the 3K, which was my best race but extremely hard and tiring (not fun). Instead I ran my first open 800 of high school track. This time I was in the unseeded heat (because I hadn't done it before) and it was much less eventful than the previous race. I don't run my 800s (at least those in freshman track meets) very smart, but for some reason I've never changed my plan. At the 400, I was in 2nd, 2 places behind the leader (NK). My first lap was 62 seconds, but my 2nd one was 70 second. I was passed by a Chariho runner in the last 100m, and I had no strength to attempt to stay ahead. I finished 3rd in the unseeded heat, with a time 2:12, and 14th overall of 25. Not a bad day at all.

Wednesday: 6.5, my first strava post since broken arm. I used my phone and ran with it. My hands got sweaty and it started to slip so I put it in my pocket. Even though I have really loose pockets, it somehow worked. That was a good run.

Thursday: IDK. I think I had a workout or something. Let's go with 4.

Friday: Again, who knows? Friday would be a normal run, so probably 5.

Saturday: Classical Classic. 4.5 Miles. Another great meet. Results. The nice thing about this meet was they broke it into sections: small schools and big schools. Westerly is considered a small school, and that's a very good thing, because it means I can actually win awards. In big schools, you got all the fast La Salle and Hendricken runners who lap you. I had the same three events as last time. All the freshmen events went off, and there was little recovery between the freshman 15 and the freshman 8, so I was glad I didn't run either. This time in the 4x800, I was third. Again, I passed a bunch of people (it was combined with another 4x800), PR'd (2:09) and we ended up 4th of 5 (top 6 got medals though). The small schools 1500 came a while after. (Like 2 hours). The 1500 didn't go as well as I hoped. I ran the first 300 neck and neck with 2 other people, but I was in the outside lane. It wasn't smart running the extra distance so I ran faster, passed them, and moved to 1st. This was my big mistake. Running ahead of them, at a pace faster than my PR pace, really took a lot out of me. They hung behind me until there were 500 meters to go, then passed. One was from Smithfield, one from Scituate. I tried to stick with them the final lap, but they pulled further and further away. The last 100 meters came and I was passed by another runner-a Portsmouth guy. For a second, I felt like I was about to pass him back, but I didn't have in it. 4th overall, 4:27.8. The 800 came a long time after that. After lots of waiting, it finally happened. I ran the same way as last week, and started way too fast. I think I was top 3 or 4 after 400, but I was passed and passed. Coming down the final stretch, I was in 6th and Top 6 get medals. As lame as the medals were, I really wanted a 3rd one and I barely held off a Narragansett runner. (the one I lost to in the middle school divisionals 3K by less than a second).

Sunday: 5 Miles, overgrown town forest run. My first time there, and I liked it (except that it was overgrown).

Weekly Total: 34 Miles

Weekly Log: May 18-24

This week I really don't remember. Except Saturday.

Monday: 6 Miles

Tuesday: Hill Workout, 5 Miles.

Wednesday: 6 Miles (Total Guess)

Thursday: 4.5 Miles

Friday: 5 Miles (Actually on Strava)

Saturday: 4 Miles on trails near Barrington high. (where another meet was that I didn't run)

Sunday: 0

Weekly Total: 30.5 Miles

Weekly Log: May 25- 31 (Best and Worst Week Ever)

Why best and worst? All because of Tuesday's meet. Freshman states. I had a perfect freshman states record going into it: won all 3 events I did. I was almost positive I was going to lose that record, because suddenly all the other freshman got faster than me. Worst, because I was extremely nervous Monday and Tuesday. Best, because of my huge success in it.

Monday: 4 Miles, freshman only practice before the big day.

Tuesday: 5 Miles, Freshman States. Results. After lots of nervousness (On a list of how nervous I was before races, this would be No. 2, after XC Freshman states), the meet was finally off. The warm-up was awful. It was hot with plenty of direct sunlight, and I didn't feel good. They called the 4x800. Fortunately, the sun went away. Our lead runner went off, and I was even more nervous. I didn't feel great and I was running in 4 and half minutes. I was third leg. I got the baton, booked it, didn't feel fast but passed lots of people as usual. 6th place for the team and a PR for me (2:07) . Plenty of recovery before the 1500, and plenty more time or nervousness. The 4x800 didn't mean that much, but this was the real deal. My coach laid out a plan: stick with the leaders the first two laps, pass them, and hang on for the rest of it. It was a good plan. I was right up with the leaders the first two laps. From my perspective, the race was between me, a toll gate runner, and an EG runner. They went back and forth with the lead. Lap 3 came and the EG runner was leading. As I tried to pass for the lead so did the Toll Gate runner, and the EG runner picked up the pace. I was dead and I just couldn't run that fast. I hung with them for another lap, then started to drop. With 300 to go, it was pretty obvious I wasn't winning this one. I finished 3rd of 48 and picked up a new PR of 4:21. The next race was my other chance at winning. The 3K. It is not fun, running both the 1500 and the 3000 in the same meet. It finally happened, and this time the race was between me, the guy from Toll Gate and an unknown Bishop Hendricken runner. I led immediately. Already 200 meters in, I was really uncomfortable. 2 laps later, they were still right on me. With about a mile to go, they were both right behind me, and my coach yelled to pick it up. It worked, I did, and they didn't stay with me. I didn't know at the time, but the Hendricken runner dropped really far back, and the Toll Gate runner was 18 seconds behind me. 1st of 25, new PR of 9:20. I felt so dead after, and then I had the 4x400 which was the next event. I thought, there's no way I'm even going to finish this thing. I anchored to get more recovery time and it went a lot smoother than I thought. 61 seconds, and no passed me. The result of letting no one pass me was another 6th place team finish- which meant another medal. And these were nice medals. 3 New PR's. A great day.

Wednesday: 2 miles, Stonington dual meet the day after. Just a 4x400. 58.5 seconds.

Thursday: 5 Miles.

Friday: 5 Miles.

Saturday: 4 miles, Hendricken Invite. I relaxed when we got there knowing that the 3K is one the last events and it was all I was running. Nope. I found out it's actually one of the first. I go out on a hot, sun-exposed warm-up and again, don't feel very good. I am so nervous and worried at the start- but I actually did well for a hot race. 9:25 time, 7th overall (just missed award).

Sunday: 0

Weekly Total: 21 Miles (but fast ones)

And that's it. See Weekly Log: June 1 to 7 for the continuation.

 Freshman Track Recap

Now that I'm caught up on mileage, I never wrote about my track season. Part of this (the track recap, not the may mileage) has actually been a draft for two months, and one day I felt it was so late that I decided I was never going to finish it. But I will now.

My PR's over my track seasons

Indoor
4x400m- 58.5s
600m- 1:35.2
4x800m- 2:15
1000m- 2:49
1500m- 4:25
1600m- 4:51
Mile- 4:53
3000m- 9:24

Outdoor
4x400m- 58.5s
4x800m- 2:07
800m- 2:11
1500m- 4:21
3000m- 9:24

My primary event in indoor was 3000. In outdoor it became the 1500m due to an injury. Here's a table of my progression in the 3K. Time and pace are last two columns. PR's are underlined.

A picture of the start of the last 3000 I did as a freshman. I finished 7th.

And I also won a few races. They are below.
Indoor
RI Classic Freshman Mile- 4:53
Southern Division Championships 3000m- 9:27
Freshman States 1500m- 4:25
Freshman States 1000m- 2:49
Outdoor
Freshman States 3000m- 9:20

Next, a ranking of every track I raced on. (Indoor and Outdoor, Worst to Best)

7. Yale (Indoor). The main reason I didn't like Yale track was because it was banked. It was the first time I had run on a track like that, and I constantly fell like I was going to fall over or that I was running funny. I also felt the vibrations of everyone running on it and the room was extremely crowded. I placed 121st in the race I was in, and each race had a lot of people in them.

6. URI (Indoor). URI's track wasn't banked but I still wasn't a fan of it. For some reason it made me cough a lot and it just didn't feel right.

5. Coventry (Outdoor). I can't explain why I didn't like this track. It just didn't feel right and wasn't a good experience.

4. Providence Career and Technical Academy (Indoor). I didn't love this track, it was just much better than Yale or URI. I did most of my meets there, and I really got used to it.

3. Conley Stadium (Outdoor). Apparently this is the name of the track where the Classical Classic was held. It's the first track that I like in this list. It was in a good location and felt good.

2. Westerly (Outdoor). Of course, I was glad to have so many meets at my home course. The track is great, and feels perfect. I had a hard time choosing between this and No. 1.

1. Bishop Hendricken (Outdoor). I was stunned when I saw the Hendricken track for the first time at the Hendricken Invite. It's a great track and turf field is really nice. I guess the reason this beats Westerly's track is because it's not out in the open near busy roads and cars like Westerly's is.

And Lastly, My Top 5 Races of both seasons

5. JV States Outdoor: 4th in 1500 with 2nd fastest time of 4:23

4. Last Chance Meet Indoor: 2nd in 3K with 2nd best 3000 time (and best 3000 indoor time) of my life

3. Division Championships Indoor: 1st in 3K with a PR of 9:27 (4th best), 5th in 1000

2. Freshman States Indoor: 1st in 1000 with PR (and my all time best) of 2:49, 1st in 4:25 (3rd best 1500)

1. Freshman States Outdoor: 800 PR, 1500 PR, 3K win and PR of 9:20

Thanks for reading.

Bobby Doyle Summer Classic

Unlike most races this summer, I was a first-timer at Bobby Doyle. I was coming off two consecutive back to back race weekends, so I felt a little better without a race the day before. I made a few goals:

A Goal- Sub 29:00 (5:48 pace)
B Goal- Sub 30:00 (6:00 pace)
C Goal- PR ( Sub 33:02)

Obviously I was going to PR, but I wasn't sure if I'd make my A goal. At Run 4 Kerri, I was two seconds off my A goal, but still really happy to come so close. I started with a two mile warm-up with Dad. The starting line was so packed. And then it started.

Mile 1: The first 30 seconds were really slow. There were people all around me, and it was really difficult to pick up the pace. I wasn't able to run my pace until I got off the school road. Just like Kerri, it went out fast. I spotted Adbullah Kaba 5 seconds ahead of me when I was going the first hill a quarter mile in. I lost sight of him quickly after. There was a downhill then an uphill. Soon it turned onto a smaller road, and it was still packed. The next turn was a quarter mile later, and it was still fast. Soon came the mile 1 split, 5:33.

Mile 2 to 5K split: I was 5-10 seconds behind David Principe until the 5K. Mile 2 went by quickly had rolling hills, and passed the school once again.

Soon after the school I hit mile 2. 5:46. It was disappointingly slow, but fortunately Mile 3 made up for it. Half a mile later, I turned off south pier road, and onto Boon St. It was pretty flat there. After a few more turns, I was on the most scenic part of the course, Ocean Road. It was another section marked off with cones. I passed David Principe, finished mile 3 in 5:34, and my 5K split was 17:37.

Miles 4 and 5: I was really surprised that I had been running so fast for the first 5K, especially since I had a faster 5K split here than at Kerri, which was a mile shorter. Mile 4 went by really quickly, and there was a section where you could see faster runners go in the other direction. I soon went around that part, and I was seeing slower runners go the other. Mile 4 ended right before the tower on Earles court that you go past in super 5K. There was a slight hill, and I slowed a little bit. A few more turns after that, I was back on South Pier road and exhausted. Before the final turn, I was past by former EG runner Tommy Sommer, who was a 8:50 3K runner in track (he wasn't trying here), but I passed him a back 30 seconds after. I made the turn, was passed one runner, and finished just over 28:30.

My official time was 28:31. The competition was so great that I finished 113th overall and 87th in my age group. I had a great race, and another 5 minute PR. Results. I really liked the course, and will probably return to it next year.

Thursday: 5 in the morning with Dad.

Saturday: 5 miles on the beach at low tide. Great run.

Sunday: 8 Miles, Bobby Doyle Race +Warm-up and cooldown

Weekly Total: 36 Miles

Run 4 Kerri 2015

I ran run 4 Kerri 5 years in a row, then dropped it in 2014, and picked it back up this year. This year I had a PR of over 5 minutes. My previous PR was 27:50 (Camire's 2013) and I lowered it to 22:42 at Kerri. There's a difference of thirteen minutes between my first Kerri time and my last. Here are my previous results:

Here were my goals coming into the race:
A Goal: 22:40 (5:40 pace)
B Goal: sub 23:00 (5:45 pace)
C Goal: sub 24:00 (6:00 pace)

Back to back race weekends aren't usually fun. This was my third this year. The first was June 6 and 7, which were both 5K's. Those races were Pawcatuck Lions and Backroad Ramble. The next race weekend was Blessing and Fat Clam Tri, June 24 and 25. This would be the last back to back race weekend for me this year, with Block Island tri the day before. (August 1 and 2). Got there, short warm-up, scanned the competition, and headed towards the start.

The Start
Mile 1: Mile 1 was quick, I felt good, and about the only place on the course with any shade. I ran out quickly, got around a few people and settled into a fast pace about a quarter mile. I was ahead of Dad and 5 seconds behind a pack of runners. I recognized two of them: Bob Jackman and David Principe Sr. I glanced at my watch a few times and it was reading 5:20 pace. I passed a fast-looking black guy who was pacing a girl. After that, my place stayed the same for the rest of the mile. Mile 1- 5:29.

Mile 2: I went out too fast mile one. I think if I ran five seconds slower in the first mile, it would have helped me. Mile 2 offered very little shade and put us out in the direct sun. A seth acton lookalike passed early in the mile. I definitely felt myself slowing, and I started to feel tired. Mile 2- 5:43.

Mile 3: Mile 2 was hot and tiring, but it wasn't quite as bad as mile 3. Mile 3 threw hills into the mix. I started to fade and slow down. Towards the end of it was a hill. Mile 3- 5:52.

Mile 4: I was really tired from climbing the hill and felt really slow immediately after it. Somehow I was able to pick it up. I passed David Principe, the seth acton lookalike, and a few other people before exiting the hot neighborhood. There was actually a little bit of shade on the downhill (same downhill in the picture). I picked it up even more on the downhill and passed a few more people. The final stretch came and I passed one more person before crossing the finish line.

It looked like 22:45 when I crossed the line, but my chip time was 22:42. Really close to my A goal, and I would definitely say I had a great race. I won some gift card in a raffle, and won a mug, a star, and a pen for 1st place age group.

Block Island Tri

Not much sleep before this one. Even though the starting time wasn't until 9, we had to catch the ferry at 6, and I ended up getting up at 3:45. When we got there, we found out the run had been shortened to 3.5 miles. That kind of threw my overall course PR and overall run PR goals out the window, as it wasn't fair to compare it to other years. I didn't really have any goals after that. Of course I wanted to win my age group, but it wouldn't be easy since I had moved up to the 15-19 division this year. I was in the last wave, again.

Swim: Dad and I jumped into the water while awaiting our waves. I thought the water was cold. After plenty of waiting and watching, my wave finally went off. I ran slowly towards the flag, probably positioned in the middle of the group, and turned at the flag into the water. Last tri, water flowed in and out of my goggles, which slowed me down in the swim. Today, it was totally fine. The water felt cold at first, but after a few minutes I got used to it. It turns out I started too far back in the wave, because I was passing people easily. It didn't take too long to get the first buoy. I turned there. I had now passed one or two people from the wave before. The next buoy seemed really far away, but it took less time then I expected to get there. On the way there I passed people from two waves ahead and maybe even some three waves ahead. Eventually, I got to the next buoy and turned, heading back to shore. Halfway to the shore, I was swimming straight towards the shore (or I felt like I was), and another person was swimming diagonally towards me. This person bumped into me, and I didn't want it to happen again, so I moved a little faster to go ahead of them, but my foot hit them this time. I finally got out of the water, and ran past a few more people on the way to transition.
Swim Time- 10:03, 88th (2014- 13:55, 128th) (2013- 12:12, 124th)

T1: Coming out off the beach, the Transition area was a dirt parking lot, and it hurt running barefoot over rocks to my area. I saw Dad just ahead of me (he started one wave ahead) and when I was halfway through my really slow transition, he finished. A minute later, I got out and onto the bike.
T1 Time- 3:00, 148th (2014- 4:06, 291th)

Bike: I definitely enjoyed the bike the most. For some reason, I thought the bike was super hilly, but after racing Fat Clam a week before, these hills seemed like nothing. The first lap wasn't as fun as the second. Once I got out to the loop, I was passing people left and right (not because I'm a good biker, but since my wave was last) and it was hard, especially when there were cars the other way. The only tough hill on the course was right when you started the loop, near the airport. Even though it was steep, it was also short and I got through it quickly. I felt good on the bike. I think I was passed by less than 10 people. Other people I would go back and forth with. I would pass them on the uphill, and they'd pass me back on the downhill. At mile 4, I took a GU, mandarin orange flavor, something I had never tried before. I was extremely sweet and I hated it. Hopefully my Gatorade would wash it down, but that was pretty gross and warm too. Eventually I got onto the second loop, and while I was still passing many people, it was much less than the first loop. The course was very scenic, and it made the ride a little more fun. Finally, I turned back off the second loop and headed back towards the beach. Cars got a little close when I got to the beach road, and I got stuck behind people.
Bike Time- 43:25, 116th (2014- 46:02, 102nd) (2013- 52:10, 210th)

T2: T2 usually is really quick, because I just have to drop my bike and helmet, but this time I had to take my shoes off. On the way out, I ran slowly because of the rocks. I grabbed a refreshing cup of purple Gatorade at the water station. Soon I came out on the beach and started my run.
T2 Time- 1:04, 38th (2014- 1:20, 102th)

Run: My best category was probably the least fun. I passed many people and was not passed at all. The first quarter mile was fast, as I looked at my watch it read 6:20 pace. The next quarter, I was down to an average of 6:30 pace. Half a mile in it turned around at the rocks (where the course was shortened), and the first mile was just past the pavilion on the way back. I passed the pavilion and now the course used the other side of the beach. Mile one was 6:40. I saw Chris first, then Tom a minute later, finishing up their runs. I saw Dad going the other way five minutes later, followed by Mark Burbelo. Mile 2- 6:39. I was getting pretty tired and soon I reached the turnaround flag and turned back. I passed 13 year olds, but they weren't in my division. Mile 3 finally passed. 6:58, pretty slow, but it was the section with the softest sand. I could see the pavilion now, but it looked so far away. After what seemed like forever, I reached it and turned towards the transition where the finish was close to. I wanted to pick it up and sprint towards the finish, but there were rocks in the sand and they hurt my feet. I finished and took my chip off.
Run Time- 25:20, 4th (In the results I was listed 5th but the 1st place run was 10 minutes, obviously an error). (2014- 30:49, 26th) (2013- 32:28, 15th)

I finished 1:22:52, 30th Overall, 2nd in my age group. I improved in every part.
