Pretty much getting over a cold and allowing myself to really get into training. Workout were pretty light this week, but I dealt with some unexpected and annoying potential injuries. More training before starting meets next week.
Monday: 8 Miles
Felt tight out going out but quickly adjusted to being pretty comfortable and cruising at 6:10s pace. Guess I didn't realize how windy it was because as soon as I started going the other direction, I was going against the wind and the pace was significantly slower. 4 miles directly into the wind. Pretty annoying.
Tuesday: 7 Miles
Track workout, 3xMile @5:16 w/2 min recovery. I wasn't too worried about this one. I've done much faster mile repeats including 3xMile (4:52/4:40/4:52) during cross country and also did ones at 5:06 pace which we were pretty easy (the latter). Ran with John and the whole thing felt really easy. Pretty much cruised the whole way. We gradually picked them up. 5:17/5:12/5:06. Difficulty: 2/5.
Wednesday: 7 Miles
This was the first pain I would have this week, and it would continue to hurt for the next few days. I had some knee soreness at the end of last week, but it remained and hurts sometimes now. The real problem was my Achilles, which had similarly started as soreness but now was hurting. Still managed a comfortable 6:38 pace but both bothered me throughout.
Thursday: 5 Miles
A very weird workout, something we might do in the middle school. A "fun" workout, I guess? I'm going to have trouble describing this because this was really mostly middle school stuff. 3 laps of Indian chains at 7:00 pace before several bleacher runs. We did the same but at 8:00 minute pace. The whole thing felt like a warm-up. We did some weird jumping exercises before running 3x400 at 72s, 67s and 59s with some of the exercises in-between. Difficulty: 3/5. The 400s felt terrible at the end. Achilles felt terrible.
Friday: 5 Miles
Went to Ninigret on my day off and did an easy 5. Achilles seemed improved but still very, very annoying. On/off pain but not enjoyable.
Saturday: 5 Miles
Track workout, 20x200 @33s w/30s recovery. I was pretty out of breath/tired the whole time and while not brutal, this was far from easy. Got a break at 12 but these were too fast to feel good on. Difficulty: 3/5. On the bright side, my Achilles felt really good.
Sunday: 4 Miles
Easy shakeout for a meet at Bradford Preserve. Legs were really sore and heavy. Achilles hurt a little more than on Saturday.
Weekly Total: 39 Miles
YTD Total: 364 Miles
Weekly Highlight: Pretty mediocre week. I guess I enjoyed and felt good on Tuesday's mile repeats but that was it. I felt much better than last week, so I guess that's good.
Weekly Lowlight: The workouts beside Tuesday's felt pretty crappy. All the distance runs weren't fun because my Achilles hurt. The Achilles pain was hard to deal with and I'm glad its behind me (I think). Don't want to get injured. Not thrilled to drop below 40 for the week, but I guess its worth it if I avoid injury.

Weekly Log: March 19 to 25
Last Two Weeks Recap:
Took the first week off as usual after finishing up indoor. Wanted to start running early that next week but a combination of sickness, a snowstorm and a math meet I ended up not running until Friday. I ran 7 miles from Avondale on Friday and gradually picked it up, ending with around 6:20 average pace. Legs were feeling heavy but overall solid. On Saturday, I wanted to run the Little Rhody loop. Things were going fine but I took a wrong turn and ended up running 9 miles, which wasn't fun because I was just exhausted at that point. The trail was really muddy too. These were my first real runs (7+ miles) in a long while, and made me very sore so I took Sunday off.
March 5-11 Weekly Total: 0 Miles
March 12-18 Weekly Total: 16 Miles
YTD Total: 282 Miles
Starting up again with outdoor. Hoping for this to be a pretty good season.
Monday: 4 Miles
Started things off with a timed mile in what weren't very good conditions. It was windy and pretty cold and given that it was a Monday, consensus was that no one really wanted to do it. I guess I wanted to go under 4:40, but wasn't feeling it at all before hand. However, I remembered feeling similarly terrible before running a 4:34 mile at the beginning of XC. I only got the 800 split, but I went out and led most of it. Probably came through in 66/67 and then 2:16. On only the second lap, my legs started to get cold and heavy. I wanted to press on the third lap, but just started feeling really weak. John Walker sat on me the whole time which was somewhat expecting and because my splits were getting slow, he was able to keep up. With 500 to go, he went by me (on the inside) and as I felt completely drained, I let him go and he beat me by 3 seconds. 4:45 to 4:42. Really disappointed in this. Not did I get beat at a real distance event, but ran a huge positive split (2:16/2:29!), felt terrible doing so and my overall time was pretty mediocre. I have some legitimate excuses here, like not running for two weeks, not running distance since XC, being sat on/doing all the work, being sick and running in cold/windy conditions but none of them would contribute to a time that slow. At the very worst, I think I still should have beat John and run 4:40 but this just didn't feel right.
Tuesday: 6 Miles
Followed things up with a hill workout and I was once again feeling heavy, sore and tired. I felt even worse on the hills (especially the heaviness), but was still able to put in a solid effort (5 Narragansetts at 5:46 pace). John and I ran side by side, but I couldn't tell whether we were both pushing it (I certainly was) or whether he just stayed with me to be polite. Difficulty: 4/5.
Wednesday: 6 Miles
Snow day from school was nice; the run was not. Went pretty much from when I woke up and legs were really heavy again. Added to this was sudden stomach discomfort which let to a bathroom problem where there were no bathrooms. The entire second half was even worse as it was against the wind and snow was constantly hitting me the face, which stung. Glad to finish this up.
Thursday: 6 Miles
Another track workout, maybe the hardest of the week. 5x800 @2:22-2:25 w/2:00 min recovery. These seemed pretty fast, especially this early in the season considering I had done something similar in XC (5x800 @2:28) and outdoor last year (4x800 @2:20) but they were either slower or lesser. John wasn't there, which I wasn't how I felt about. Sometimes it's nice to have someone to pace with, other times I feel like it screws up the pacing. Jon Turano was supposed to them with me, which was strange because they would be really fast for him. The wind wasn't too bad and I was able to be comfortable. I was a little heavy, but felt smooth for the most part. I started to get pretty tired on the second laps of the last two, but overall it wasn't as bad as I expected. Splits: 2:20 (68/72), 2:20 (69/71), 2:22 (69/73), 2:25 (71/74), 2:22 (70/72). Difficulty: 4/5. I was pretty happy with this workout. It seemed much harder on paper than either Monday's or Tuesday's workout but just felt so many times better.
Friday: 7 Miles
Was pretty tired again and wasn't sure if I'd have to run a slow pace for my distance run. It ended up being fine, 6:27 pace for 6 miles but I felt pretty weak throughout. Once again, was glad to finish this one.
Saturday: 6 Miles
Was nervous for a potentially brutal workout. It ended up being a common one; 10x400. I can't remember whether we had 60s or 90s recovery, but it felt like 60s. John and I were supposed to run 69s-70s, but as usual we weren't very good at pacing. We got a break at 6 and despite feeling fine before that break, the last four were tiring. The final 100 was extremely windy which made the end very tiring. Splits: 67/68/69/66/67/67/65/66/66/66. Difficulty: 3/5.
Sunday: 8 Miles
Was looking to run trails on my only non-practice and like Carter's new trail additions and map, so decided to run there. Ran the perimeter trails from Kings Factory lot which ended up being just over 7 miles, so I had to tack on a little roads. The trails were really good- except for the first mile which went over some big bumps that screwed up my form/momentum and a open sandy area which slowed things down. Would definitely return here. Pretty cold at first, then I warmed up.
Weekly Total: 43 Miles (longest week by 8 miles since late November)
YTD Total: 325 Miles
Weekly Highlight: This was a very mixed week overall, with plenty of highlight and lowlights. The biggest highlight was probably that I'm training normally as a distance runner again, something I have waited nearly half a year to do (from when I first got injured). This resulted in the first week over 40 miles since November and my first 7+ miles runs (last week too) probably also since November. It feels good to finally run again, and I don't think I'm in bad shape either. Thursday's and Sunday's run were also much better than the others.
Weekly Lowlight: I was generally really tired this week, both general fatigue/weakness and soreness/heaviness all over my body. I still managed to have mostly solid workouts, but felt crappy 4 of the 7 days I ran. I guess there's always a few days of the week that don't feel great, but Monday's was the definite lowlight. It's the only all-out effort I have now on record since my return to distance running and it was nothing short of terrible. Up until now, I had never lost anything under 800 meters to a teammate, but now I got beat in a longer event and ran a pathetic time while doing so. I feel like this was just a bad day rather than indicating what kind of shape I'm in, but it didn't feel good regardless.

New Englands/End of Indoor- Weekly Log: February 26 to March 4
With one final week left, now is the final chance to break 2:00. It doesn't seem very likely, but I feel like I'm in great shape (perhaps the best mid-distance shape I've ever been in, if that makes sense) and certainly have the capability of doing so.
Monday: 4 Miles
Track workout. Ran with the rest of the 4x800 team for this one. 4x400 w/2 mins recovery w/descending splits (68/66/64/60). I sat back and let Sam and John Walker do the pace, but they screwed it up a little. The first two were perfect, but the next two were off (68/66/62/62). I thought these were a little tiring, but mostly comfortably. Strangely enough the next set, 4x200 @30s w/60s recovery was extremely tiring and while I hit the splits, I was exhausted after every one. I paced in the front for these. Difficulty: 3/5
Tuesday: 5 Miles
Really just did not feel good after the workout and trying to run my normal, comfortable pace was a struggle. Much heavier than usual and it being really windy only made it worse. Have been getting into the habit of running faster last miles, but just couldn't today.
Wednesday: 5 Miles
Another workout, but once again back to working out alone. 3x400 at 59s w/2-3 min break. I don't really remember this one well, but the 400s were definitely tough. I think my splits were 59/59/61. I can't remember the rest of the workout, but I'm guessing it was 4x200 as usual. Difficulty: 4/5.
Thursday: 5 Miles
Mini-workout. 3x200 @30s each w/60s recovery. Much smoother than usual having them at the beginning. All-out 300 which I hit a PR of 40.5s and I was satisfied with that. Difficulty: 2/5
Friday: 4 Miles
Weather outside was absolutely horrible (cold rain and extremely fast winds), so we all had to run inside. My options were either gym or treadmill and while both sounded terrible, I split the difference and ran 15 minutes on each. Felt mostly smooth.
Saturday: 6 Miles
New England Championships. We got there super early, but being the first event there wasn't a lot of time to warm-up. After waiting in lots of crowded bathroom and some terrible warm-ups that included running back and forth on a 75m stretch of track and running around a small section of an extremely crowded gym, we awaited the final orders. We were called to be in the fast heat, one of the slowest team to make it which was surprising but I was excited. They kept us in the gym for a while but we soon made our way over to the track. We watched the winner of the slow heat run a fast 8:08 (the runner-up was 8:30) and awaited our race.
Jon Turano led us off and was slightly in last the whole before Sam ran a very strong leg and passed a couple guys. John Walker ran strong as usual and put us a few positions ahead as well. I got the baton. My coach told me I went out in a 55 at States and that I need to go out in 59, but I found the first part very hard believe especially as I tried hard to relax in the first lap. I didn't attempt to catch up to the next runner (who happened to be the NE XC champion Drew Thompson) in the first and stayed a few strides behind. This didn't feel tiring, but didn't really feel that good either. I made a slight move lap 2 to move up a little and in lap 3 really pushed it passing a runner. The burn of the final lap felt much better this time, but I was feeling a little and think I held back a bit. I came right up on two guys at the end but wasn't able to get them. We crossed in 13th place in 8:13.29 (both team directly ahead also ran 8:13). I ended up running 2:01 and running the smartest/most even split in any 800 with a 59/62. It was a PR, but just barely. I was a little disappointed because I was expecting to run 2:00 and this was my last chance to run fast. Our individual splits were- 2:04/2:03/2:02/2:01.
Sunday: 0. Day off. Starting a one-two week break.

Weekly Log: February 19 to 25
With New Englands two weeks away instead of one, this week is pretty much focused on training. Two workouts, Wednesday and Saturday with the rest being easy/recovery days. My sole goal moving forward is to break 2 minutes in the 800. I know 2:03 doesn't translate to sub-2, even with the two weeks of training and moving from a slow flat track to a fast banked track (Reggie Lewis Center), but I remain hopeful and motivated to get this. I'm pretty confident that I can get close and I think I just need to work on the second half.
Monday: 4 Miles
Ran with Sam from the Y. Pretty steady high 6 pace. I felt a little tired from lack of sleep and just wasn't feeling it. Ended up slipping and falling on ice in the Y parking lot on the way back (and am still feeling it a week later).
Tuesday: 4 Miles
Another run with Sam, this time in Ninigret. Unlike yesterday's slog, this was both enjoyable and smooth. I always love running in Nnigret and this was no exception. Ran a steady 6:30 and picked it up to a 5:57 the last mile.
Wednesday: 4 Miles
Track workout. Had 3x400 with slightly varying pace (60/58/all-out) with 3 minutes rest in between. I knew this would be pretty tough, especially the third one. Went out in a 60 feeling pretty smooth. The 58 was a little tiring but didn't feel too bad. My coach wanted me to hit a 58 final 400 but I was just dead and I ran 61 which was a little disappointing. After a long break, I had 4x200 at 30s w/60s recovery but I was absolutely dead and struggling and only did 2. Difficulty: 4/5.
Thursday: 6 Miles
Finally got to do a longer run. Off-practice days I get to run 6 miles now which felt so nice. Ran a pretty steady 6:30 pace which felt pretty comfortable except on some hills where I was a little heavy. Finished up in 5:58. Really enjoy and feel good on these faster runs and will likely do these in outdoor. Started at Avondale and looped around Watch Hill.
Friday: 5 Miles
A mediocre loop in pretty terrible weather. Didn't feel that great either. Was surprised to still maintain a sub-6:30 pace anyways.
Saturday: 4 Miles
A pretty similar workout to the one we did before States. We started with an all-out 600, but the interesting part was that our top sprinter, Ryan (50s 400 PR), would be racing us. I was feeling sluggish before, but it didn't impact me during the race. I took it out hard and usual and really pushed the second 200. Ryan caught me there (at the 400) and easily accelerated away. Sam passed me with 150 to go and I was able to stay right on him but couldn't get around. I felt people coming for me in the last 100, but was able to stay in 3rd. Ryan ran 1:24, Sam and I ran 1:26, John Walker ran 1:27 and Jon Turano ran 1:28. I was pretty satisfied with this and it was much better than last time. I would have liked to beat Sam, but was happy with the PR. Apparently I went through the 400 in 54/55 which is ridiculous considering my PR is 55 and I've run consistent 57s in out all-out 400s.
I didn't have a lot of recovery after that and had 5x200 w/60s recovery at 29s. These were a real struggle as I was pretty tired and I was falling off slightly at the end. Difficulty: 4/5
Sunday: 0. First day off in a while.
Weekly Total: 27 Miles
YTD Total: 237 Miles
Weekly Highlight: Running a 1:26 600 was pretty nice. Also most of the runs were pretty solid.
Weekly Lowlight: I felt like I struggled in the workout more than usual and this didn't feel good.

States- Weekly Log: February 12 to 18
The big day has come. For me, States is always a high pressured meet that can potentially bring great rewards. With me losing so much to injury, I only have the 4x800 and certainly feel nowhere near as much pressure not competing in individual events. However, our 4x800 team is very strong this year and are the verge on placing top 6, which would qualify us for New Englands. This is certainly our team goal and something that is important to me as well. With many strong teams, it seems we could be anywhere from 4th-8th place overall.
Monday: 7 Miles
Longest distance for a day in a while. Despite my teammates having just a normal run, I was to run 4xNarragansett. Ran a 15 minute warm-up which I felt pretty heavy but surprisingly felt both smooth and fast on the hills. Hammered each one of them and while they were tiring, I felt strong. Cooldown was another story, as my shin was really bothering me and the heaviness returned. At least the workout portion was solid. Difficulty: 2/5.
Tuesday: 5 Miles
Ran around town with Sam. We ran together comfortably at a controllable 6:30 pace on most flat or downhill roads. The final mile was mostly uphill and I pushed a little harder, dropping Sam and running a 6:00. Legs got a little heavy but overall still felt pretty smooth.
Wednesday: 5 Miles
Had a track workout, focusing on speedwork/pacing for the 800. Started with 6x200 at 30s with 45s recovery. Despite struggling with the 30 second 200s in almost any workout I've done over the last month, this surprisingly felt pretty good and I hit the split without pushing it too hard. After a 5 minute break, I had a 400 at 61s followed by a 300 at 45s (2 min break in between). It was hard to go up in distance while maintaining the same speed and these were somewhat difficult. Difficulty: 3/5.
Thursday: 4 Miles
Another workout, but this was very quick. It was only 2x400 at 59s w/2min recovery. The first one felt fast but controlled, the second was more of a struggle, especially in the last 200. I ran 59/58, which I was happy with but was feeling it after. Difficulty: 3/5.
Friday: 5 Miles
Final shakeout before States. Was feeling a bit tight from the workouts so I decided to take it pretty easy. Went solo for this one. About 7:00 average.
Saturday: 3 Miles
State Meet. I was feeling good about this because I had more sleep than usual and our warm-ups weren't rushed. I was a little nervous about trying to get that top 6 spot. I figured NK, Hope and Hendricken would be top 3 and there was nothing we could do about that. However, spots 4-8 were completely open and there were many teams fighting for that #4 spot. I figured we were in the mix for that battle, but wasn't sure if we could pull it off. Teams after top 8 probably wouldn't touch us. I figured we could beat Barrington because we beat them at Class and they ran their A team there. I also thought La Salle and/or Toll Gate could possibly be beaten because they likely wouldn't run their A team. Chariho was the final team in the mix, and that would all come down to whether they ran their top guys or not.
Warm-ups were pretty relaxed. They woke me up and I was feeling mostly good, if not a little tired. I really wanted to break 2, but I knew it wasn't very likely and was more realistically shooting for 2:01/2:02. My coach stressed the importance of me not going out too fast and wanted me to run a 59s first quarter. This was something I kept in the back of mind to remind myself to relax and ease up when I got the baton to conserve some energy for the back half. We found out that Toll Gate wasn't running their A team and Chariho had scratched completely. This significantly increased our chance of making New Englands and I was a little excited.
The gun finally went off and I began the nervous and long wait to race. I ended up talking with Barrington's anchor who said their team was also shooting for top 6. Sam got boxed in somewhat and I think we were around 7th after our first leg. I was pretty nervous and it was hard for me to focus on the race. I think Jon passed one guy or so and we went into 6th. John Walker ran a really strong leg and put is in 4th with both LaSalle right on our heels. I knew they'd be right behind and was nervous about having to lead them. I went out the first lap conscious not to overdo it. I kept a steady and comfortable yet fast pace with a LaSalle runner right behind me. There were a couple times where I thought he might pass but he never did and in lap 3, it seemed like I was starting to pull away. I tried to hammer lap 3 and as usual, lap 4 I couldn't do much on. I crossed the line in 4th in 8:19.73.
I was very surprised that we not only broke 8:20 but placed 4th in the state. This was definitely a huge team victory with us getting medals and easily making the new England qualification. Our splits were: 2:07/2:04/2:04/2:03. I was a little disappointed in 2:03. I knew a 2 second improvement was pretty solid; I just feel like I should be able to run much faster.
Sunday: 4 Miles
Ran a loop on river road in Pawcatuck, coming back on Greenhaven and some neighborhood suburbs. Ended up going solo and somewhat late. A bit chilly from some windy and my legs were somewhat heavy as well.
Weekly Total: 33 Miles
YTD Total: 210 Miles
Weekly Highlight: While I wasn't fully satisfied with my individual split, it's impossible to deny that we accomplished something pretty big for a Westerly relay team. Sub-8:20 was beyond my expectations and really just show the potential for a sub 8 team in outdoor.
Weekly Lowlight: Nothing really. Some of the distance runs were a little heavy/tight or boring, but this was a pretty good week with no significant lowlights.

Last Chance- Weekly Log: February 5 to 11
A week of training with a meet in the middle. Last Chance should be pretty competitive and I have goals of 2:04 and 1:28 just like at Class.
Monday: 5 Miles
Ran with Tanner and Sam on an out and back to Saint Michael's cemetery. I felt that we ran pretty slow and plan on picking up the pace for these running very soon.
Tuesday: 5 Miles
Another track workout before the meet. Wasn't sure whether I wanted the two easy days before or another workout to push me before the meet. I ended up with distance again running 6x400 with John at 72s each, about 45s recovery. The recovery kept it slightly tiring, but I felt mostly good as these weren't particularly fast. Afterwards I broke off on my own again, having 4x200 at 30s with only a minute recovery before a 5th all-out 200 that was pretty bad in 29. These 200s were a struggle. Difficulty: 3/5
Wednesday: 5 Miles
It was absolutely pouring out and at just 32 degrees, we all felt pretty cold. It didn't take long for what I had on to get soaked and cold and my exposed legs were starting to sting. Not my favorite run.
Thursday: 6 Miles
Last Chance Meet. I felt slightly less prepared than usual, given that its hard to get sleep on weeknights and my calves still felt tight from the workout. I was to hit a really strong 800, but was so disappointed to be moved from the 1K to the 600, given that I could have had an impact in the 1000 and potentially even made New Englands whereas my 600 times have been pretty slow. Since I hadn't run it this season, the organization didn't accept no time as a seed, even though it clearly says they do in the meet rules. Extremely frustrating that I lost my one chance to run well in an individual event this season.
We were extremely rushed in the 4x800. We had to skip the first stage of our warm-up and it wasn't long before we were about to race. Hope and Toll Gate were huge surprises, coming in with very slow seed times and both breaking 8:20. Bishop Hendricken ran a slow team and we were behind them in 4th for most of the race. I got the baton and moved around him. I don't really know my splits but I felt mostly good and even tried to push the third lap. This was all slightly harder because there were 16 teams jostling for position on a 200 meter track. We finished in 4th in a very disappointing 8:33. I suspected we may be slower because Tanner was running and he's really our 6th fastest 800 runner, but I didn't not expect to move a whole 5 seconds back. The order was Jon (Turano), Sam, Tanner then me with splits of 2:07/2:07/2:12/2:05. I ran pretty much the same time (2:05.7 vs 2:05.8) but was pretty disappointed I had no improvement and that our team not only ran much slower, but dropped two places in the rankings. While Tanner was the most off and Sam still ran very well, I felt like this was mostly my fault as I wanted to run a fast time and instead I had no improvement.
I honestly had no interest in even running the 600 at all. After not being able to run the 1K, I was doubtful I'd run much faster than 1:30 and knew I wasn't going to PR. I tried to go out fast again and held a lead through 500 meters, where I passed by a La Salle runner. The LaSalle surged in the 50 and broke away and I was edged by a Prout runner at the finish, running a 1:31.17. I wasn't too disappointed as I didn't have particularly high expectations, I was just more disappointed that my individual events would be over the season because I didn't end up running the 1000.
Friday: 5 Miles
Ran with Aaron and Sam. Tried to keep a steady 6:45 pace on a somewhat hilly route, which felt pretty good. Legs surprisingly didn't feel too beat up.
Saturday: 5 Miles
This track workout had been billed as extremely tough. The coaches had told us many times that this would be really hard and while I wasn't looking for to it, I wanted to train to run fast. We ended having an all-out 600 followed by 5x200 at 30s w/60s recovery. The mid-distance and distance runners were jumbled together, meaning many guys were running the 600. I doubted I would win but wouldn't be surprised if I led some of it. I was given the first spot and was nearly boxed in but pushed my way up to the front. I felt comfortable even though it was fast and led until 400 meters. As usual, I started to tighten up there and both Aaron and Sam went by me. With about 50-70 meters to go, Jon also passed but surprising I remained fairly close to all of them. Sam, Aaron and Jon all ran 1:27, while I ran 1:28, a PR. Tanner ran 1:29 and both John and Guam ran 1:31. This was very surprising to run this fast and it certainly felt good.
The 200s after were somewhat tiring, but doable. I led all of them and we pretty much hit 30s for each. This workout was fast and somewhat tiring but nowhere near as hard as I expected. I felt that all of my runs were smooth and felt mostly good so this was a pretty good confidence booster. Difficulty: 3/5.
Sunday: 4 Miles
Ran late and local from the breachway in Weekapaug. Was feeling a bit trashed at first but settled into the run and gradually picked it up, going from a 6:49 mile to a 5:48. Felt good to do this pretty comfortably. Pouring out which wasn't too fun.
Weekly Total: 35
YTD Total: 177
Weekly Highlight: The workout felt really good and not like I was out of shape at all. It was very surprisingly to PR in practice and the entire thing was confidence booster. Going out of the meet, I felt defeated. Going out of the workout, I felt ready for more.
Weekly Lowlight: While I didn't run bad in the meet, it was still disappointing for two reasons. 1) My 800 and team 4x800 was much slower than expected and its clear now I'm going to have to fight to run break 2 and we'll have to run hard to get the top 6 at States. 2) Any chance I had for individual completely ended and I'm left having to accept my 1K PR from junior year as my final hs pr, a time that I think I could have significantly improved. I was looking for to trying to run the 1000 at New Englands, and now I'm just going to have one event every meet.
Moving forward, I have at least one meet left and likely two. With that, I have one goal: break 2:00 in the 800.

Class- Weekly Log: January 29 to February 4
My second meet and second week of officially being back is the Class Championships, a good opportunity to run fast. I'm once again running the 4x800 and 600, with goal times of 2:04 and 1:28. I figure both I should have a shot at top 3, but I really don't know.
Monday: 6 Miles
Ended up having a workout because of the snow on Tuesday. At first I thought it was just hills, but we ended up having a combination of hills and track. I ran 3xNarragansett with John Walker which helped to have someone to pace with. It felt pretty tiring and I had to immediately head over to the track to start the next part of the workout. We then had 4x300 @45s each with maybe 3-4 min recovery which sounded fast but were surprisingly comfortable. We ended up only doing 3, but then had 8x200 (we did 6) at 34s with 60s recovery. Despite this being the easiest portion of the workout, my lack of training really caught up to me and this was a struggle. Overall, it was a pretty hard workout but I was glad to do the whole thing. Difficulty: 4/5
Tuesday: 4 Miles
Had a day off from school due to the snow. Ended up running local and late from the house. Completely lost traction in the second half which made miles 3 and 4 pretty slow.
Wednesday: 4 Miles
Another short and easy run. Nothing special about this one.
Thursday: 5 Miles
Track workout before the meet. I was with distance again. We ran 7x300 (I ran with John again) at 51s each. The recovery was extremely short, only consisting of a 100 meter jog back to the starting point, but they were slow enough that I felt mostly comfortable. The challenge was really in the 200s, which mine were pretty fast at 30s each (John ran slower 200s for these). I started to fall off at the end but managed to not blow up because I only had 4. Difficulty: 3/5

Another normal distance run. Calves still feeling somewhat tight from the previous day but took it easy.
Saturday: 6 Miles
Class B Championship. Arrived with enough time which made me feel more relaxed. Being the first event, we had to warm up pretty early but I felt less rushed this time. Sam and I would remain on the team, while Aaron and Tanner would move to other events. We were joined by Jon Turano and John Walker, which should make for a stronger team. I knew Barrington would likely beat us, while Chariho and Portsmouth both were in the running, but I didn't know if either were running their A team. I felt tight on the warm-ups and soon after, we were ready to go. As anchor again, I was a little nervous waiting around. Portsmouth had decided not to run a team and Chariho was running a slow team, so I was pretty sure we had second wrapped up. There only four teams total, which was unusually small. Jon kept just behind Barrington's lead off, and the other two switched places back and forth. I knew the Barrington anchor was pretty good, maybe a low 2s guy and I probably wouldn't beat him at this stage. He told the others that I was going to beat him easily, which seemed very weird. We had a slight lead when I got the baton. I very restless and just went for it, going out in a fast 57. I remember being less focused in this event but not wanting to relinquish our lead. We ended up taking the win in 8:28.73, a new meet record and a 7-second team best this season. Our splits were 2:06/2:06/2:08/2:05 (rounding down). I was pretty happy with our team effort, as we had a huge PR overall, won the class championships and set a meet record all of which far exceeded my expectations. I was slightly disappointing in my overall split as I felt I had made some mistakes and could have run faster. We moved up to 4th in the state which was encouraging.
Not too longer after we were up for the 600. I was once again in the slow heat. We had less recovery than we did at division and it wasn't long before I was up. I felt somewhat tired and wasn't sure how fast I could run. It ended up being a similar case as usual, dying in the last 200 to run a somewhat bad time of 1:31.85. I wasn't as disappointed as I was at Division but disappointed nonetheless. Class felt like an okay effort, an improvement but once again falling very short of my goals.

Sunday: 4 Miles
Met up with Sam in the morning for an easy low-7s pace run in Watch Hill. It was pretty enjoyable and felt like good recovery, but makes me miss running longer distances.
Weekly Total: 34 Miles
YTD Total: 142 Miles
Weekly Highlight: I probably have to split this with start to significantly improve fitness, which was mostly seen in Thursday's workout and our big team win at Class. Winning another Class title was never on my mind and thanks to my teammates very strong efforts, it happened. Running 8:28 a whole two weeks before states definitely make me feel that we can contend for a possible top 4 spot at States, especially as I feel I can run much faster.
Weekly Lowlight: My 600 campaign has only proved to be disappointing as I once again felt very short of my goal and my PR.
Next week includes the Last Chance meet on Thursday, where I'll be shooting for 1:28 and 2:04. I'm not sure we can improve on our 8:28, as Tanner will be running instead of John but it will be close.
