Ran the Resolution 5K today. I thought I did pretty well. I placed 19th and my time was 21:52.
Warm-up
Arrived at about 9:30. Had to wait in a long line to get the bib and the registration people told me I had to fill out a new form because apparently my name was Nicole walker. My name was just below that, so they found me and I got the correct bib. About a 1-mile warm-up and got to preview the puddles before running. I decided to wear just my singlet, shorts, ,gloves, and of course shoes.
Race
I was somewhat cold waiting for the race to start. I lined up in the second row. The gun went off, or rather the siren went off to start the race. The first part was a run to a flag which was away from the trail which we later ran. That part was along the beach with many rocks that a found to be a pain. t made it much harder to run. The first part, up to the trail, many more people had passed me than I had passed people and I was feeling a little out of breath and a little drowsy. I ran straight through the first puddle while people were going around and I passed 3 people running through the puddle. Might of splashed them, but who cares? When I ran through the second puddle I maybe passed one more person. The puddle also woke me up. I wasn't feeling drowsy anymore and I was also less tired. I passed one more person before reaching the road. It also seemed like I picked up the pace. I made a turn quickly and It seemed that I was heading back to the beach. I took a while and there was more path than I expected. There were puddles again n the trail. I finally finished the trail, gradually passing more people. I liked these trail because they were more wide open and I didn't really mind the puddles; the only problem was I didn't have a change of clothes for after. Getting out of the trail we had to go through the small building, but that was also full of puddles. Getting out of that, I saw people coming from the right who didn't go the right way. On the way on the beach, It seemed short. On the final stretch I passed 3-4 more people.
Cool-down
My dad and I ran with various WTAC runners. I started to make seagull noises and muddy called me on it. (Most of you will have no idea what I'm talking about.) Most people turned back partway through the road but my dad, muddy, and I kept going. We ran the trail, but It was muddier than I remembered. One muddy place my dad jumped over, I stepped on and my foot sunk into a little bit and it made a strange noise. My foot was very muddy and completely soaked after that. After exiting the trail, we took the hard way and crossed the biggest river on the beach. A lady watched us and must of thought we were insane. After that, my feet were very cold. We finished up the cool-down at 2 miles.
I think this is the first race in a while where I have done well, had fun, the first to run with just a singlet a top, and the first in a while to do a cool-down. (I usually am too tired after a race to do a cool-down) I liked it much better than the Old Mountain 5K, which I disliked, mostly because of the snow. I think my next race is Super 5K, but I'm not sure.
That was definitely a fun race, with the puddles and mud...Super 5K next, great flat PR course!
