Meet Monday, then a 15 day break from racing.
Monday: 7 Miles, final dual meet of season. Unfortunately, I had to run races on a holiday (MLK), and since few of our runners showed up, I was running four events, including the 4x200 which was new to me. The 4x200 was first, and I was the third leg. We had the top spot, then I got it and lost a place to a runner on the final 100. It was such a weird race, as I was going all out but couldn't increase pace at all to hold off the runner passing me. I had plenty of recovery before the 600, but the 4x200 took more out of me than I anticipated. I wasn't supposed to go all out in the 6, but rather run with the leaders and break away at the end for the win. I took the first 250 easy, then passed and pushed the last 350 since someone was going with me. My legs got tired and slowed down in the last 100, but I managed to take the win. I ended up tying my PR to the hundredth of a second (1:32.37). I was supposed to run a great 1000 after that, but I was too tired. My first 400 was really fast, but after that I slowed down, was passed, and finished 7 seconds off my PR in the slowest time of the year. My 4x400 was still pretty good, considering that I had just run two hard races. My times for the day: 27, 1:32, 2:49, 61.
I was supposed to do a 20-minute cool-down when I got home, so I ran the Champlin Trails that had been recently covered in a light blanket of snow.
Tuesday: 6 Miles. It was a cold, cold day in this frigid January (much different from the mild December), and none of us looked forward to practice. 28 degrees, with the wind making the real feel 10 degrees. The coach had me run with someone else, so the pace was slower but I didn't mind as a solo run in the cold temperature wouldn't have been very fun. Easy East Loop.
Wednesday: 8 Miles. I had previously heard that there were connector trails to the SHS campus. I set out to find this, since I wanted to run SHS but didn't like taking route 1. I found the trail, and spent the run exploring SHS. I love their track ad ran a few laps around, but it was less enjoyable with strong winds.
Thursday: 6 Miles. Hill workout: repeats on Narragansett, but only four of them. It went by quickly and wasn't extremely hard. I pushed myself, especially on the first and last. I was too tired by the last one, but ended up coming only two seconds off my Narragansett ave summer to ward CR that I've been trying to break. Difficulty of Workout: 2/5.
Friday: 6 Miles. Track Workout. The coach had planned 600s, but we switched to 300s because snow covered 50 meters of the home stretch of the track. They were fast and didn't have a ton of recovery. 7x300 w/50-55 seconds recovery: 49/48/47/46/48/48/48. I was getting tired at the end, but the long recovery between the next set helped me recover. The next set was easy. 8x200 w/30-35 seconds recovery. I don't have the exact splits but they ranged from 33-35 seconds. Difficulty of Workout: 3/5.
Saturday: 10 Miles. Dad was running a 16-miler with 8 fast miles (6:25 pace). I decided I'd join him for the fast part. I was a little sick and had trouble keeping up miles 2-5, but regained energy going with the wind and was able to push the last three hard miles: 6:14, 6:04, 5:44. Finished up a slow and against-the-wind last mile. Happy with this run.
Sunday: 5 Miles. I am not a snow runner, and was unable to run the thick snow trails in Bradford area. Instead it was 5 miles of wet and snowy roads, slow pace, and not very fun. Went for the woody segement, but it was one of those times where I ended up missing the segment entirely due to stopping right before the end of it. I probably ran a high 4s, or low 5s pace, but instead I was listed as 8:35 pace. Not happy with this run.
Weekly Total: 48 Miles
I think this is my highest week ever, since I wrote that 46 was my highest in my end of the year blog. Maybe I'll crack 50 next week?
YTD: 148 Miles
