States Raced In Each Year (End 2022 Update)

This is copied from a post from last year, but updated with current stats. I'm done racing for the year so this is reflective of stats through end 2022.

Here are the states I've raced in each year, starting in 2014 as that's the first year I started running consistently. States are listed chronologically in the order that I raced in them.

2014 (2): RI, CT

2015 (3): RI, CT, *VT

2016 (4): RI, CT, *MA, *NH + Iceland

2017 (7): RI, CT, MA, *NY, NH, *AK, *ME

2018 (6): RI, MA, NY, NH, *NC, CT

2019 (3): NH, MA, RI

2020 (5): MA, RI, CT, ME, NH

2021 (6): NH, RI, ME, VT, NH, CT

2022 (9): NH, ME, MA, VT, NY, RI, CT, *MI, *PA + Canada (kind of)

Total # of States: 11

*First time raced in state

I wrote in the original post that I'd be racing in RI and NH pretty much every year. I think RI and MA will be two states almost always on the list now. MA has a huge percentage of competitive New England road races and Boston is a frequented city for anyone into indoor track or XC. For triathlons as well, Mass has far more to offer than any other NE state. RI will be on the list since it's home- I'd either being doing some WTAC events or other local ones at least once. CT is likely, but there's probably no must-do. But it is likely given the proximity. Northern NE is harder, as generally it's hard to justify a longer drive/hotel cost when there are so many great events in Southern NE. For trails/mountains, NH is easy to check off. Maine and Vermont I'm not sure what I would do in 2023.

Municipalities

Here the towns and cities I've raced in more than once (note that I'm counting each track meet as one race, not each event separately. I am also counting 2020's track TTs and all-out fun run efforts even though they are technically not races, I didn't count FKTs however.):

Again, since 2014.

1. Providence, RI- 45 races (mostly indoor track)

2. Westerly, RI- 42 races

3. South Kingstown, RI- 14 races

3. Warwick, RI- 14 races

5. Narragansett, RI- 13 races

5. Boston, MA- 13 races

7. Durham, NH- 10 races (2022 Note: This will be the final count for Durham as there are no open races there)

8. Glocester, RI- 9 races (all XC)

9. Charlestown, RI- 5 races

9. Coventry, RI- 5 races

11. Stonington, CT- 4 races

11. New Shoreham, RI- 4 races

11. Burrillville, RI- 4 races

11. Richmond, RI- 4 races

11. Portsmouth, RI- 4 races

11. East Greenwich, RI- 4 races

11. New Haven, CT- 4 races

11. Lincoln, NH- 4 races

19. New London, CT- 3 races

19. Middletown, RI- 3 races

19. West Warwick, RI- 3 races

19. New Britain, CT- 3 races

23. North Kingstown, RI- 2 races

23. Burlington, VT- 2 Races

23. New Gloucester, ME- 2 Races

23. New York, NY- 2 Races

23. Manchester, CT- 2 Races

It seems strange I've raced in Providence so many more times than any other municipalities, especially considering I've never run a road or cross country races there. This is really because all in state indoor competitions were in Providence, of which they were many. I actually don't expect to race there again (or Warwick), the only event possibly of interest would be the full/half marathon and it's not really on my bucket list. The local towns I will of course race in many more times, and I'll likely be racing in Boston and Durham over the next school year.

2022 Note: No Durham anymore. Will be doing indoor most winters given there isn't much else to do for racing unless you do road races in the south, which means many visits to Boston.

Municipalities I've Only Run One Race In:

*2022 New Edition

Alaska- Anchorage, Palmer

Connecticut- Barkhamsted, *Hartford

Maine- Belfast, *Cape Elizabeth, Newry, *Orono

Massachusetts- *Amherst,  Attleboro, *Falmouth, Littleton, *Lowell, *Needham, Norwell, *Sharon, *Worcester

(Technically the UMass Amherst track is in Hadley but I kept it as Amherst as most of the campus is in Amherst and the results show Amherst. Also I DNF'd a race in Carlisle but I'm not including that since I didn't finish.)

Michigan- *Detroit

New Hampshire- Concord, Gorham, Hanover, Manchester, Nashua, Newport

New York- White Plains, *Wilmington

North Carolina- Greensboro

Pennsylvania- *Philadelphia

Rhode Island- Pawtucket

Vermont- Manchester, Stowe, Thetford, Windsor

I like tracking these stats and will still have a small section in the year in review about it. Many new municipalities as I never raced in the same municipality twice this year. This is the most states I've ever raced in a year, but it makes sense given it was my first full race schedule since 2018 (injuries and COVID cancellations meant I wasn't racing full season) and I was racing on my own in the second half of the year so I wasn't limited to UNH's schedule which sees little travel.

I don't expect to beat that number for 2023. I'd like to get a new state or two, but am unsure if I will race in every New England state again. Just unsure right now what I would do in Vermont or Maine. Without those two and I doubt I'll race in PA and MI again so I'd have lesser numbers overall. Right now, I expect to get at least 5- RI, MA, CT, NY and NH but nothing definitive lined up beyond that.
