Weekly Log: February 26 to March 3

Recovery from RnR Las Vegas, and final hard long run. Opted to skip a mid-week workout to focus on proper recovery.

Monday: 0 Miles

Drive back to Thousand Oaks, nice to have the day off. Unsurprisingly sore given how bad my legs felt race day.

Tuesday: 11 Miles- Thousand Oaks, CA

Typical ridgeline loop. Felt weirdly weak and out of it to start but better by the end. Some soreness but not totally trashed.

Wednesday: 12 Miles- Agoura Hills, CA

Cheeseboro long version, tired legs to finish. A lot less sore.

Thursday: 11 Miles- Thousand Oaks, CA

Hilly trails in Central thousand oaks from the community park. 1,300' elevation change. This trails can be really fun but I didn't not feel great on this one and was pretty tired. Also got back at 10 miles when it was supposed to be an 11 mile route, always annoying. 4x30s strides which didn't feel terrible.

Friday: 10 Miles- Camarillo, CA

Wanted a flatter route so my legs would feel a little better, and it worked. That doesn't really exist (flat) in Thousand Oaks so did an extended version of the usual Camarillo loop. Felt pretty good overall.

Saturday: 16 Miles- Ventura, CA

Last true long run of the block 2 weeks out. Cut this down from 18 as I clearly overtrained going into Vegas, am in great shape and just need to taper off enough that I'm fresh. 6 mile warm-up then a 3-2-1 mile tempo block with mile rest of 8 continuous. Pretty similar to Vegas- effort felt controlled/easy enough but my legs were just super heavy and unresponsive. Not quite as bad though as I would have shut things down if it was similar to Vegas.

5:36/5:27/5:25 for the respective paces in each hard block. These are great paces and coming a lot easier than last time around (or ever). Anything under 5:40 has been a struggle to hit in the past and just now is my new hard effort during this block. The downside is that my legs were still trashed.

Sunday: 10 Miles- Thousand Oaks, CA

Santa Rosa Valley for mostly trail, but a bit flatter. This has a really enjoyable loop in the past, but not today. Super muddy and slipping all over the place, felt quite heavy/flat on the road portions, really tight hamstring the whole time. Two weeks to figure it out!

Weekly Total: 71 Miles

Weekly Highlight: Confirming that Vegas was not a fitness issue, and just overtraining. Clearly fantastic fitness.

Weekly Lowlight: Dealing with the effects of overtraining and the concern about that going into the marathon.

Movies Watched: None
