Boston Marathon - Weekly Log: April 21 to 27

Monday: 27 Miles- Hopkinton, MA

Boston Marathon. Went okay- small PR but well short of my true goals.

Tuesday: 0 Miles

Wednesday: 3 Miles- Providence, RI

Roger Williams park loop post-interview. Extremely sore quads and achilles still inflammed.

Thursday: 0 Miles

Friday: 6 Miles- Hopkinton, RI

Point to point trail in Canochet and Yawgoog with Dad/Brady. Legs and achilles felt much better, but did not have it today - felt pretty and breathing hard from the start. That last section of narragansett trail (long + ell pond) felt absolutely brutal as I hadn't done anything that technical in a while. Funny how later in the season it won't be feel too bad as it's tame compared to NH or NY mountain trails, but very tough by RI standards.

Saturday: 0 Miles

Sunday: 21 Miles- Berlin, CT

With a 50K on deck May 17th, not much time to train so I really wanted to get started with long trail runs this weekend despite being so close to Boston. Felt this would be a good reintroduction to technical trails and not too far, as well as return to some spots I hadn't been in a while - Ragged Mountain and Hubbard Park/Castle Craig. Made a nice loop with both trails I had and had not been on.

Started just after 7am. 2.5 miles on road felt bad at first with a tight achilles then once I got on the ragged trails I also felt really bad because the technicality and elevation felt so difficult. Felt a lot better once the trails got easier. Got through Ragged and I'd be on the metacomet trail for a while. Met with Andrew about halfway in and we ran up West Peak then East Peak where Castle Craig - super nice trails in this park and brutally difficult in a few spots. Met Dad at Castle Craig and then the rest wasn't nearly as fun as I was pretty tired and it was starting to get warm, but a good run overall- 3,300' elevation gain.

Body felt decent overall, there was a chance I'd be broken after Boston. Pretty tight in spots, especially hips. Achilles felt uncomfortable for a few miles running up West Peak and I was going to stop to massage it but then it completely stopped bothering me.
